Screening of "Drying for Freedom" & Share Exchange Fundraiser!
Friday, April 19
6:30-8:30
$10 fundraiser, advanced RSVP is required
please call (707) 583-7667 or email melissa@shareexchange.coop to reserve your seat
Price includes film, cake & glass of champagne! All proceeds will return to the ShareExchange
The celebration of National Hanging Out Day continues with a Share Exchange fundraiser & Sonoma County premiere of the of award winning the film “Drying for Freedom”!
"Drying for Freedom" is a film about our right to protect the planet. There is a worldwide focus and drive to cut carbon emissions and ensure that human activity does not damage our planet. Paradoxically there are an increasing number of communities that actively prevent people from living environmentally conscious lives. How would you respond if you were banned from being environmentally friendly? This film explores this new eco battlefield where communities and individuals are banned from drying their clothes naturally outdoors - a simple single act which cuts carbon emissions and reduces energy bills. Challenging the rules could lead to prosecution; in one instance it has even lead to murder! How did drying clothes become a life threatening, environmental and social catastrophe? In a carbon neutral journey across the globe, documentary director Steven Lake is meeting people who want to tell the world about the new environmental combat zone... electric clothes drying!
From Northern America to London and Mumbai, "Drying for Freedom" exposes the inconvenient truth about clotheslines. The film explores how certain challenges to freedoms are affecting our fight to save the planet by revealing the story of our love affair with energy, the people who are campaigning against it and those who fight to pass Right-To-Dry legislation, making it illegal to ban clotheslines.

Filmed over nearly three years, WASTE LAND follows renowned artist Vik Muniz as he journeys from his home base in Brooklyn to his native Brazil and the world's largest garbage dump, Jardim Gramacho, located on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. There he photographs an eclectic band of “catadores”—self-designated pickers of recyclable materials. Muniz’s initial objective was to “paint” the catadores with garbage. However, his collaboration with these inspiring characters as they recreate photographic images of themselves out of garbage reveals both the dignity and despair of the catadores as they begin to re-imagine their lives. This film is more than just about “garbage”, it offers stirring evidence of the transformative power of art and the alchemy of the human spirit.

Imagine sitting in a powerful circle of fellow change-makers, speaking your truth, opening, co-learning...remembering your true nature and connection with the living world, your passions and service path, and the village...cultivating a set of practices to nurture your emerging visions and futures... to honor who you really are…for yourself, your community, and for a thriving planet… moving beyond calcified constructs, beliefs, and patterns of the past and into a new era of healing, creativity, peace, joy, wholeness, reverence, love, and collaboration.

Using experiential, nature and community-based leadership development, the Ecology of Leadership program blends inquiry and skill development, self-awareness, and deepened nature connection with principles of systems thinking and permaculture. With the support of a powerful and dynamic circle, you will explore leadership from the inside out, envisioning and stepping into the possibilities you hold for your life and your service path.

Community Event: Slow Money North Bay
December 10th
6pm
Please Note -This event is NOT at the Share Exchange.
Location: Seed Bank in Petaluma, 199 Petaluma Blvd North
Please join for the last North Bay Slow Money meeting for 2012 where we will dive into the question:
What are the needs, challenges and market opportunities in the local & sustainable meat value chain?
This has been a recurring topic of interest and was a major theme of the Economic Development Forum for the North Coast Region held on November 9th in Rohnert Park. Some good discussion has come from that as well as a bunch of questions that seem especially relevant to the focus of Slow Money North Bay (and Northern California at large).
- What do we mean by local and sustainable? What is the role of GMOs and organic certification?
- What needs work?: Where is production, processing or distribution infrastructure lacking or vulnerable?
- What looks good?: Which animals & value-added products present the best market opportunities?
- Are the key pieces all in place?: Are processing steps all taken care of for now and the future?
- Government challenges: What can be done given current regulations and permitting?
- Are new market entrants adding important elements to processing or distribution?
- What threats and new market entrants will challenge the sector?
This is not meant to be the full range of questions and issues, just some to get the conversation to progress to the next stage. Maybe even taking action! So if you participate in the North Bay local meat scene, please make a point to attend this discussion.
Also, in the year end holiday and harvest spirit, please feel free to bring a finger-food item to share! What a great chance to show off your skill with local ingredients.
For more information, please visit www.slowmoneynorthbay.org. Please note this is not a ShareExchange event.

They are also available as originals or giclees (the finest method of reproduction) prints.
Zak has created art his entire life. “ At four years of age I knew I wanted to be an artist.” Now, after 50 years of being a professional artist, his fully illustrated children's book is complete. “Over the last several years I have been asked to continue writing and illustrating children's book by friends and art patrons, and so this creative odyssey continues.
With his newest book he continues his tradition of creating art from the heart to inspire the extended community and bring joy and happiness to the world.
Zak will take you on a most magical journey with his words and award winning art of his creatures who now seem to be popping up everywhere.

Art Opening with Ruth Rubanowitz
Friday, November 2
5:00-7:00
FREE!
Join us for the artist's reception of our November art show: Human Landscapes. This show will run for the entire month of November.
"Human Landscape" is a series of "body part" collages that Ruth has been working on for the last couple of years and continue to pursue.
They are made with body parts cut out of fashion magazine ads, which are collaged onto a background that is painted on watercolor paper using acrylic paint and water.
Artist Statement:
When I first started this series, as I was cutting out the pieces from the magazine ads, I was struck by how grotesque the previously "perfect" looking models became when they were reduced to only body parts, and it seemed like a statement about objectifying the models, who become only clothes hangers and display vehicles to sell clothing. It also says something about the unrealistic standards of beauty that are foisted upon the public by the fashion industry, since even the models are only human beings made up of the same parts everyone has, but who are artificially presented with tricks of Photoshop, lighting and other gimmicks.

3rd Annual Light and Dark: El Día de Los Muertos Writing Workshop
Wednesday, October 24
6:30-9pm
$35-50 with limited scholarships available
DEPOSIT REQUIRED to hold your space, Limited to 8 participants
Feel free to bring small items for the altar
Please RSVP at petalsandbones@gmail.com
Celebrate summer’s end and the move from light to dark with a day of writing and food! In this half-day creative writing workshop we will explore transition, change, and different aspects of death and dying. October 30th falls just before Halloween, Dia de los Muertos, and All Souls Day, and we will be finding non-religious inspiration from these different holidays in a way that promises to be celebratory, fun, and enlightening.
The ancient Celts believed that Samhain (the original Halloween) was a time when the border between the spirit world and this world became thin, an intriguing possibility that bodes well for some truly inspired writing. Let’s pull those skeletons from the closet and let them dance, calavera-style! Snacks will be provided (and maybe some Halloween candy!).

Stop Food Waste Now!, a workshop with The Frugal Goddess
Monday, October 15
7:00-9:00
$19.00, advance tickets at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/258266
Food waste-We've all done it. And it is expensive and gives us a bad feeling when it happens. But the Frugal Goddess has tips, tools, and tactics to cut your food waste to zero (or close to it.)
Food waste has several factors both psychological and practical. Do you fail to plan? Or buy things on impulse? Do you know how to store your food so it will last until you are ready? Do you have a freezer? If we looked in your veggie drawer, what would be hiding there?
Come learn how to plan, how to shop, and how to process your food to get it secured so you can eat it when you are ready. The workshop will cover how we make bad choices that lead to food waste, how to plan a week’s meals that will really be eaten without waste, how to store what you buy so it lasts, and how to handle special problems with the flow of food through your household and your life.
It is very likely that you will recoup the cost of the workshop in less than one month, and keep getting the benefits forever. If you regularly dump your money into the waste bin through wasted food, if you have great intentions on shopping day that lead to nothing but expensive compost, if you have “science experiments in you vegetable bin instead of edible veggies, this might be for you!

If you regularly dump your money into the waste bin through wasted food, if you have great intentions on shopping day that lead to nothing but expensive compost, if you have “science experiments in you vegetable bin instead of edible veggies, this might be for you!

Discussion on the Natural Intimacy of Words
Wednesday, June 6
7:00-9:00 pm
Suggested donation of $5
Explore with Michael Bridge a new idea of conversation and a new relationship with words.
In this age, the Egoic Age, our private and collective wounds are maintained in the common language, in our lingual patterns and lingual behaviors. As language tunes the energy field of our body, illness that grow in the energetic ground of wounds is maintained the same way. In the Egoic Age, civilization is itself a post-tramatic-stress disorder rooted in a wounded relationship with words. Shifting over to a new relationship with words, standing clear of woundedness, a great healing can ensue. Join us to discuss this topic.

Art Opening: Amber Dawn
Friday, June 1
6:00- 7:00 pm
FREE!
Come enjoy the immaculate Pencil, acrylic paints and mixed media drawings of Amber Dawn in this art opening. Light refreshments and beverages will be provided.
Artist statement:
The natural world has always been a boundless source of inspiration for me; the shapes, colors and textures of flora and fauna and mankind alike dazzle in their array of complexity and design. Through my work, I attempt to capture that which to me are some of the most intriguing contrasts of our macrocosm; a melancholy beauty, a grinning skull composed of bright, lively shades, or the faintest spark of life in an otherwise sterile specimen piece. I consider these pieces as unpretentious, ever-evolving re-imaginings of that which occurs naturally, filtered only through my own admiration of beauty and contradiction which is fundamental, uncomplicated and absolute.
This show will run for through the month of June.
